Description / Abstract ...the American Stove Company at Clevland, Ohio under the direction of Dorothy E. Shank, M.A. A collection of recipes from the American Stove Company and Lorain Oven Heat Regulators.

Physical Description A tanned cream colored cloth bound hard covered book. The cover features a red, black, and cream design featuring the Magic Chef heat regulator. The inner cover (front and back) features two separate images one of a woman cooking and another of a family around the dinner table. The book includes colored photographs of dishes.

Publisher Details The company was originally founded in St. Louis by a pair of German immigrants, John Ringen and George August Kahle, in the 1870s under the name The Ringen Stove Company and another corporation followed called the Quick Meal Stove Company. In 1901, both companies and many other stove companies from Chicago, St. Louis, and Cleveland merged together to form the American Stove Company. In 1914, the company created the first oven temperature control, Lorain Oven Heat Regulator, which became known as Magic Chef by 1929. ASCo. changed its name to Magic Chef, Inc. in 1951. Various merges occured and by 1986, the company was under Maytag. In 2006, Whirlpool gained Maytag and Magic Chef was put under to CNA/International Inc.

Notes The spine is discolored, possibly from sunning or water damage. Its top and bottom have cracks and frays. Pages are lightly tanned. Discolorations are found on the edges of the pages. The back inner cover is cracked as well.
