Description / Abstract About the life of Jean des Esseintes, a French aristocrat who lived an outlandish lifestyle, but rejects it and retreats to his country estate, educating himself on various philosophies and recalling his outlandish life.

Physical Description A hard covered book with a navy blue cover and a spine with black and gold. Spine lists the author and title and publisher. Inner cover is a light blue. This edition inculdes a long introduction by Havelock Ellis and illustrations by Arthur Zaidenberg. The pages have deckle edges and some are uncut.

Author Joris-Karl Huysmans (1848-1907)

Author Details A French novelist who was part of the "decadent movement" of literature; a movement in opposition of the Naturalism literature movement. Known for his fit, large vocabulary, satire, and later Catholic and Christian motifs. rebours was his most popular novel and was published in 1884
