Maker F. W. Fitch Company

Maker Details The Fitch brand was known throughout the United States for its range of shampoo products during the first half of the Twentieth Century. Despite the dabbling in toilet goods, Fitch’s business was still built on his dandruff remover and other hair products. By 1947 approaches were being made by other companies to buy F W Fitch at a time when the company was losing money and costs were rising. Eventually, in 1949, Grove Laboratories of St Louis was successful in its bid and F W Fitch was sold. Two years later on 1 October 1951 Fred W Fitch died not having achieved his ultimate dream of a lasting cosmetic enterprise but being known throughout the United States, instead, as ‘The Shampoo King’.
