Description Metal curling iron by Francois Marcel. Not electric, would have been heated manually. Shaped similar to scissors with hinge in center. Hinge engraved with "Marceline, Francois Marcel Patent Pending, Bklyn, NY U.S.A.".

Maker Francois Marcel

Maker Details François Marcel Woelfflé, who later changed his name to François Marcel, was granted U.S. patents for implements for performing the technique: the first, U.S. patent 806386, entitled "Curling-Iron", was published in 1905. Considered the inventor of Marcelling, which is a hair styling technique in which hot curling tongs are used to induce a curl into the hair.
