Description Red cardboard box originally containing one pound of Crest Chocolates. Box base (2553a) has the following printed on the bottom in black ink: Assorted Chocolates / one pound net weight / Made in U.S. America by The Walter M. Lowney Company / Boston, Mass. / and in Canada by The Walter M. Lowney Co., of Canada, Ltd. / Montreal, Quebec. Inside box base are embossed heavy tissue panels with Lowney's name, floral design, and scalloped edges. Box top (2553b) has gold embossed Lowney's logo on upper left corner. Below that is gold embossed wording: assorted creams, nut meats, ripe fruits, nugatines, and caramels. Lower right has gold embossed wording: Crest Chocolates, one pound net weight.

Maker The Walter M. Lowney Company

Maker Details The Walter M. Lowney Company, an American candy and chocolate manufacturer, renowned especially for the Cherry Blossom, was founded in 1883 in Boston. The company operated a series of chocolate stores and also published cookbooks. A Canadian branch of the company was in operation sometime in the 1890s. A factory was built in Montreal in 1905, and there were also Canadian offices in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver. The Canadian branch is now owned by Hershey Canada Inc., a subsidiary of The Hershey Company.
