Description Yellow cardboard box (2548a) containing instruction sheet (2548b) and a small glass bottle of pills (2548c) which acted as a laxative, mild physic, or active cathartic. Manufactured by Chamberlain Medicine Company and sold for 25 cents. Back side of the box and instruction sheet have information in Spanish. Sides of box say "Just what you need for biliousness and headaches due to temporary constipation." Box (2548a) is gold colored with black printing. Instruction sheet (2548b) is printed in black ink on paper which has aged to a light tan color. Bottle (2548c) is clear glass with a white painted metal screw cap. Small paper label glued to one side. Pink pills inside bottle. Cap does not readily come off.

Maker Details In 1872, Lowell Chamberlain started the first Iowa drug company. In 1881, he moved his company, Chamberlain Medicine Co., from eastern Iowa to 206 Court Avenue in Des Moines. In 1892, Chamberlain Medicine Co. was incorporated and achieved national distribution. Around 1925, Davis Chamberlain sold the Chamberlain Medicine Company to St. Louis, MO, interests, retaining only the Chamberlain Golden Touch Lotion.
