Title M. J. Clearly election poster
Description Print on cardstock. White paper with black ink. Over 3/4 of paper at center is photograph of M. J. Cleary in bowtie with IPEU mark at lower edge. Below is text "M. J. Cleary / Republican Candidate for / Commissioner of Insurance" At lower left corner is makers mark for Allied Printing Trades Council No. 6. At lower right edge is text "Primaries, Sept. 6th, 1910. Frame is wood, painted black. Plastic sheet covering print. Back has plastic sheeting wrapped around and a piece of paper adhered with masking tape.

Notes Frame and plastic are not original or archival, needs attention. Holes and scratches in plastic sheet. Wood frame is scuffed on edges. On right edge at center there is a yellow and a white mark. White marks at lower right corner of frame. On Poster loss at top left corner, at top center. Crease and tear starting at top center until just below upper right corner. Tears around right edge and lower edge at right. Black ink at bottom is faded, with more fading on the right. On back, staining on lower edge of poster to the right of center and at left end just above the corner. Masking tape is brittle. Paper adhered to back is yellowed.

Notes Cleary did not win the election in 1910. Herman L. Ekern was teh Commissioner of Insurance from January 2, 1911 to July 1, 1915. Cleary ran again and won. He held the position from July 1, 1915 to April 10, 1919. He was from Blanchardville, Wisconsin.
