Title Duraglas glass jug

Description Round, clear glass jug with narrow neck. Small handle attached to side of neck. No lid, but has threads for screw-on lid. At top, front of jug "One Gallon" is embossed. At bottom edge at front and back "Duraglas" is embossed. To right of "Duraglas" on front is embossed text "E1641". Bottom of bottle has textured pattern. At center is manufacturer mark for Owens-Illinois Glass Co. At center is the letter "I" in a circle in an enlongated diamond. At left is "7" at right is "0" at bottom is "9"

Maker Owens-Illinois Glass Company

Maker Details Manufacturer mark indicates it was from Factory 7 in Alton, Illinois (1930-Today). Possibly make in either 1940 or 1950. The Owens-Illinois Glass company was the result of a merger between the Illinois Glass Co. and the Owens Bottle Co. The Illinois Glass Co. was incorporated in 1873. In 1903, the Owens Bottle Machine Co. was founded by Michael Owens which eventually became the Owens Bottle Co. in 1911. In 1929, the Illinois Glass Co. and the Owens Bottle Co merged and became the Owens-Illinois Glass Company. Duraglas was debuted in 1940
