Object Desc Large clear glass jug that leads to a narrow neck. No lid. Has small glass handle attached to neck. "Duraglas" written at lower edge at front and back and "One Gallon" at front top.

Title Duraglas glass jug

Description Clear, glass jug, round in shape. Leads up to narrow neck with small glass handle. Embossed at top edge at front is text "One Gallon". At lower edge iat front and back is "Duraglas" embossed in glass. Bottom of jug is textured and at center is Owens-Illinois maker's mar. "I" insides of a circle over an elongated diamond. At left is "7" indicating factory number 7 (Alton, IL). At right appears to be "7", but is difficult to read could also be "2." indicating year of manufactuer (either 1947 or 1942). At bottom is "19"

Maker Owens-Illinois Glass Company

Maker Details Manufacturer mark indicates it was from Factory 7 in Alton, Illinois (1930-Today). Possibly make in either 1942 or 1947. The Owens-Illinois Glass company was the result of a merger between the Illinois Glass Co. and the Owens Bottle Co. The Illinois Glass Co. was incorporated in 1873. In 1903, the Owens Bottle Machine Co. was founded by Michael Owens which eventually became the Owens Bottle Co. in 1911. In 1929, the Illinois Glass Co. and the Owens Bottle Co merged and became the Owens-Illinois Glass Company. Duraglas was debuted in 1940.

Notes Overall, good condition. Some minor manufacturer errors inherent in teh glass. Dust accretions on the interior of the bottle. Some staining on the interior at front and around top edge. Scratches on the interior. On exterior, light wear and minor scratches and scuff marks. At left by seam there is an accretion.
