Place of Origin

Maker Ivins Baking Co.

Maker Details The old Ivins Baking Co. was once located on Broad Street near Fairmount Avenue, the company dates back to 1846. When the company folded decades ago, Acme purchased the name "Ivins" and their famous spiced cookie recipe. The spiced cookie is a staple in Philadelphia. Acme contracted out the job to Perfect Foods in Lansdale. The company made Tritzels, Chipzel and Sweetzel products - pretzels, chips and cookies. In 1965, the Borzillo family, which operated a wholesale bakery business in Norristown, purchased the Sweetzel division. At some point, Acme switched the contract to other bakeries. There's no other place in America where these spiced wafers are baked and sold. The only two companies on the planet that bake Ivins are Sweetzel and Acme, which contracts with outside bakeries.
