Description Metal, retangular tin with rounded corners and hinged lid. Light blue with dark blue accents and text. On lid text reads, "Edgeworth / Extra / High Grade / Plug Slice / Smoking Tobacco / Larus & Bro. Co. Richmond, VA. U.S.A." On front and back edges "Edgeworth" is written. On left side text "Finest Selected Stock". On right side, factory no. informaiton. On the interior of the lid there is description of the product. with image of tobacco plant at left.

Maker Larus & Brother Company

Maker Details In 1877, Charles Dunning Larus and Herbert Clinton Larus formed a partnership and purchased the Harris Tobacco Company in Richmond, VA. They formed the Larus & Brother Company. In 1882, when Herbert died, William Thomas Reed, a nephew, became a partner. Larus & Bro. Co started by manufacturing chewing tobacco and plug tobacco for pipes. In 1900, the company incorporated. The Edgeworth trademark was introduced in 1903. The product was in the sliced form instead of plug form. Edgeworht Ready-Rubbed was the first pipe tobacco that was ready for smoking. The product was pre-sliced into smaller pieces. The company closed in 1974.

Notes Overall, metal is scratched and worn with small areas of paint loss. Exterior is dirty. On lid at center there are two dents with brown staining. On lid at front edge center there is a white mark. The sides are worth and dirty, difficult to see text. Bottom of in is tarnished and rusted. Interior of tin is tarnsihed and scratched with rusting around edges of bottom an interior lip of lid.
