Maker Larus & Brother Company

Maker Details In 1877, Charles Dunning Larus and Herbert Clinton Larus formed a partnership and purchased the Harris Tobacco Company in Richmond, VA. They formed the Larus & Brother Company. In 1882, when Herbert died, William Thomas Reed, a nephew, became a partner. Larus & Bro. Co started by manufacturing chewing tobacco and plug tobacco for pipes. In 1900, the company incorporated. The Edgeworth trademark was introduced in 1903. The product was in the sliced form instead of plug form. Edgeworht Ready-Rubbed was the first pipe tobacco that was ready for smoking. The product was pre-sliced into smaller pieces. The company closed in 1974.
