Title Seal Snus snuff container

Description Small, cardboard container with yellow paper label and metal lid. Lid is embossed with star shape and text at center "Seal Snus". On front of label is text "Seal / Manufactured by Weyman-Bruton Co. / Successor to / Aug. Beck & Co." At left is star shape with text "Blandning". On right side is black oval shape with text "Blandning / Svenskt Snus". Left side of can has Factory No. info. Piece of tax stamp adhered to back.

Maker Details In 1822, George Weyman opened a tobacco shop in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1905, The American Tobacco Company acquired Weyman & Bro. In 1911, after the American Tobacco Co. dissolved, the Weyman-Bruton Co. was incorporated. In 1922, Weyman-Bruton became the United States Tobacco Company. August Beck & Company was one of the snuff producting branches of the American Tobacco Company.

Notes A- The interior is very stained with brown and white accretions stucke to bottom. Top of container is crased and worn with tears in surface of cardboard. Loss of top edges of paper label. Label is dirty and worn. Dent in paper at left top edge. Only piece of tax stamp remaining at back. Bottom of containter is worn with minor discoloration. B- Lid is tarnished and worn. Areas of rust on top and edges. Dent in metal at top edge towards left. Interior is very rusted and tarnished.
