Title Summer-Time Tobacco package

Description Paper, foil-lined package of tobacco. Still filled with tobacco. On front, text at top "Gold Old / Summer-Time" at bottom text, "Long Cut / Tobacco". At center is image of beach with man in top hat sitting in chair reading at left. At right is woman in red dress looking right. At left side of package running vertically is Factory No. info. Running vertcially at right side of package is text "Manufactured by / Spaulding & Merrick, Chicago / Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co., Successor. Back of package has continuation of design with text vertically, "Summer-Time / Long Cut / Tobacco"

Maker Details Manufactured by Spaulding & Merrick (Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co., Successor). Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company (L&M) has existed in some form since before the War of 1812. It began to establish itself in St. Louis, Missouri, in the 1860s, and the company was incorporated in 1873. Liggett & Myers specialized in plug tobacco, a form of chewing tobacco, but they soon began producing cigarettes, as well. Liggett Group, formerly known as Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company, is the fourth largest tobacco company in the United States

Notes Package is wrapped on all but the left side with large pieces of cellophane tape. Tape is yellowed and loose on edges. Paper underneath is worn and creased. Staining at front at top left. On left side of package there is a hole in paper at lower edge. On top of package the foil is folded over and the tax stamp is underneath the tape.
