Description / Abstract

Physical Description Printed sign. Cream-colored cardboard. Text at top reads, "Our Little Beauties Cigarettes". Below are two squares with image of a baby inside each. At bottom of sign is text, Manufactured by Allen & Ginter Richmond, Virginia". At top of paper at left and right sides are two metal gommets for hanging. Back of side is plain. Dimensions: 11 1/16" H x 13 1/2" W

Notes Overall, good condition for the time period. Paper is yellowed and discolored. Loss at top right corner of paper. Loss at top edge center. Lower right corner is creased. Crease at lower edge to left of center. Brown stain at lower edge inbetween center and left corner. Brown stain on graphic at the left. On back, masking tape residue and pieces at center. The black ink from front has bled through faintly onto back side at top and the outline of the squares. On right side, paper is dirty, looks like fingerprints. Light wear on back.

Notes In 1865, John Allen and Lewis Ginter started the tobacco company. Allen & Ginter was the first company to market cigarette cards. Our Little Beauties Cigarettes were made from Turkish and Virginia tobaccos.
