Physical Description Large, rectangular lithograph glued to cardboard backing. Print is of a man and woman at center. Man is in military uniform. At top text, "Defend Your Hair / Against Dandruff". Red and white flag draped around image. At bottom of sign graphics of products at left and right. At center "Fitch's" in red text below center. Text at bottom, "Guaranteed Dandruff Remover Shampoo and Fitch's 'Ideal" for the Hair / Allied for hair defense...perfect grooming". On back there is a triangular piece of cardboard to prop the sign up. Bottom edge is folded back at right angle. Measurements: 27" H x 23 5/8" W x 1" D

Notes Damage from liquid on bottom has warped the paper. On front dark stains on upper left and upper right corners. All four corners are worn and the layers of cardboard have separated. Loss of paper layer on top right corner, and tears. Edges have minor wear. Ligh scratches. Below center at center is a scratch with loss of paper. Holes on edges from pins/thumb tacs. On back water damage at bottom edge. Edges are yellowed and discolored. Light scratches on back and cardboard easel. Edges are frayed. At bottom edge the top layer of paper has separated from cardboard, tears vertically. At top edge to right of center brown stains on paper, possible mold. On cardboard easel at right, lower edge there are white marks.

Notes Frederick W. Fitch developed the dandruff shampoo in 1892 in Madrid, IA. The company was based in Des Moines, IA from the 1920s through the 1940s. After WWII the company had a drop in sales, and loss contracts with the U.S. Army.
