Title High Life Brand coffee box

Description Cardboard box for High Life Brand Coffee. Print on all sides except bottom. Paper is brown. On front and back sides, "High Life" in red text. Rest of text in green "Square Carton / Steel Cut / Coffee / Roasted and Packed by / Jewett & Sherman Co. / Milwaukee - Wisconsin / Kansas City - Missouri". On top of box is the brand name. On left and right sides is a description of product. Bottom of box is plain, white with a lid that as a tabt o close.

Maker Jewett & Sherman Company

Maker Details In 1867, the Jewett & Sherman Company was established in Milwaukee by Milo Jewett and William Sherman. In 1875, it was incorporated. The business was originally located on East Water Street and was a wholesale purveyor of coffee and spices. In 1875, the company moved to North Broadway in the Third Ward.

Notes Overall, the box is stained and discolored. Edges are yellowed. On the back side at lower left corner there is a hole with loss; looks like rodent activity. There is cellophane tape all over box on edges. There is wear on the edges with small tears. On front side at lower left edge there is loss of paper layer in "Coffee". The back side at top edge and right side at top edge is severely worn with tears vertically. One the bottom there is wear on edges. Paper is dirty and discolored. Creases around tab.

Notes Jewett & Sherman Co. was a manufacturer of coffee and spices. The company was originally located on E. Water Street. Starting in 1875, they were based in Milwaukee's Third Ward on Commission Row in what is known familiarly as the Merchant Mills Building. In 1867, the company was founded by Milo P. Jewett, S.S. Sherman and William Sherman.
