Description / Abstract The 5th book or collection ofTillie the Toiler comic strips. Featuring Tillie a secretary and her adventures. Accompanied by the characters of Mac, the Boss, Mr. Wipple, and her mother. In this edition the coworkers set out to start their own furniture company. Stylish working girl Tillie was employed as a stenographer, secretary and part-time model. An attractive brunette, she had no problem finding men to escort her around town. The comic strip inspired two films of the same name. Tillie the Toiler (1927) and Tillie the Toiler (1941). In addition, there are other Tillie the Toiler inspired items, such as paper dolls.

Physical Description Front and back cover of bound paperback are printed in color. Both feature the same image of a large headshot of Tillie, accompanied by the other characters in balloons around her. Reads "Tillie the Toiler, by Russ Westover, ANC Book 5, Cupples and Leon Company Publishers New York, copyright 1930 By King Features Syndicate Inc-Great Britain Rights Reserved". Front and Back inside cover list other series by the publisher. Measurements: 10" X 10"

Author Russ Westover

Author Details Tillie the Toiler was a newspaper comic strip created by cartoonist Russ Westover who initially worked on his concept of a flapper character in a strip he titled Rose of the Office. With a title change, it sold to King Features Syndicate which carried the strip from 1921 to 1959. Westover retired in 1951 with his assistant Bob Gustafson then doing most of the writing and drawing.

Notes This book of comic strips is in poor condition in various ways. Many of the pages and some comic squares appear to be missing or cut out of the book. In addition the book's pages are very yellowed and torn in many places. The cover of the book is also distressed with tears and scratches. Much of the book is taped together.
