Title Janesville Brand advertisement

Description Metal sign painted black with gold, red, and white lettering. Red border around edge. Text, "Guaranteed / Trade Mark / The / Janesville / Brand / Shirts and Overalls". Paper backing to the metal. At left on back there is a stamp which reads, "To keep this sign clean and bright wipe the curface of it every thirty days with a damp cloth. American Art Works Coshocton, Ohio". At top center there is a black cord about 4.5" horizontally across. At bottom edge on back there is a white box painted with maker's mark "The American Art Works, Coshocton, Ohio"

Notes Along edges there are small areas of rust. At left, next to the letter "J" there is another small area of rust. Along bottom edge there is white discoloration, undernearth the dust and dirt. At left lower quadrant the black paint is worn and gold is showing through. On back metal edges the black paint is worn off and gold is showing through. The edges are rusted. The paper backing shows water damage. At center there is a small hole in the paper. The black cord appears in good condition, but the ends are frayed.

Notes The Janesville Shirt and Overall Company started in 1906 and was housed in the former Janesville Cotton Mill on North Franklin Street. The company closed in the 1970s. They had 80 workers who manufactured work shirts and overalls. (
