Title Union Leader Tobacco Tin

Description Small rectangular metal container with inscription "Union Leader Smoking Tobacco" on both sides of the tin. Tin is red with words in a black outline and gold + white color filling. There is also the figure of an eagle holding 2 arrows in the center. Eagle is in black and white on an oval shaped gold circle as background. On one side of the tin it says " P. Lorillard Company" in black writing. On other side it says "Pipe or Cigarette" in black and below it there is a notice by the company in small black writing.Tin has a hindged lid that still opens. The lid has a paper seal around that's been broken, indicating that the tin has been opened. On paper seal we can read words "One and one half" on lateral part of the seal, and on top part "Series 107" and "1 1/2 ounces tobacco". On other lateral portion of the seal there is a small picture of J. Q. Adams with his name below and "1 1/2 Tax Paid". Bottom of the tin is gold and has two white adhesive tags added saying "847" and "1.50".

Notes The metal surface has scratches on several spots, some very visible, showing sign of wear. The are also some smudges on both sides of the tin as well as the lid. Writing on the tin is quite readable. There are 1 larger and 2 smaller spots on the front surface of the tin located on the top right side of the eagle that looks like it is stuck to the tin. There is a dent on the lower right part of the tin back surface. The lid does not close completely until the end. The paper seal has some black stain on top part. Seal has been broken and has some tearing on one of the lateral sides.Some rust can also be seen on lower part of the tin closer to the bottom as well as on the top where the lid sits.
